Marble No Grout Lines

For most granite and marble tile i install i use either 1 32 or 1 16 inch grout lines.

Today my tile installer told me that you don t have grout lines with marble tile. I am redoing a master bath and we will be doing cararra marble. You will be butting the tiles up. The best thing to do is use the smallest grout line your particular tile will allow and get a grout that closely matches the tile.

As you work be very careful to avoid the edges of the tiles themselves as you do not want to chip or scratch them. I have never heard of this before. Grout works to prevent moisture and detritus from entering and getting stuck in the grout joints. Using a grout saw or an electric tool such as a dremel with an appropriate attachment begin to remove the grout from between the marble tiles.

It keeps moisture out of the substrate helps keep tile lines straight and prevents tiles from rubbing against one. Laying a marble floor without grout is possible so long as proper care is taken to assure your layout is perfectly square. This can kick up a lot of grout dust so make sure the area is well ventilated. I try to use the smallest grout lines the tile will allow.
