Before you start building plan out a design for your roller coaster. Make sure your marble starts at the top of a hill. Figure out how many supports and pieces of track you will need. Using a piece of corrugated cardboard as a base assemble your track according to your plan.

Draw your design on paper. It is not easy to get it right the first time. Abstract this is a really fun project even if you don t like going on roller coasters yourself. You ll build a roller coaster track for marbles using foam pipe insulation and masking tape and see how much the marble s potential energy at the beginning of the track is converted to kinetic energy at various points along the track.

You have to experiment with different height and different loop sizes to make a good roller coaster marble run.
