Don t use abrasive cleaner or pads either because marble can be scratched. Mild soap and hot water will do just fine. It is easily stained dulled and scratched. For most organic food stains the marble institute recommends cleaning with a solution of 12 hydrogen peroxide and a few drops of ammonia.

You need to take care not to scratch it or expose it to acid such as vinegar or strong alkaline agents like ammonia and detergents. Apply it to the stain and cover it with plastic for 24 hours. You can use a soft liquid cleanser household detergent mineral spirits or ammonia to remove oil based stains from your marble surfaces. Dry the surface around the water stain then rub in a circular pattern over the stain until the stain buffs out of the marble.
